Dialogue evening in Frankfurt (Oder): Border experiences between East and West!
On November 3, 2025, the Frankfurt-Słubice Cooperation Center invites you to an exciting dialogue evening under the motto “Border Experiences”. The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the city hall of Frankfurt (Oder) in the “Heilbronn” area and offers a platform for exchanging information about current tensions in Europe. Admission is free, but registration is required by today. Anyone interested can register by email to kooperationszentrum@frankfurt-oder.de.
The evening will be moderated by “More Democracy e.V.” and is dominated by geopolitical developments, especially the effects of the war in Ukraine. Participants are invited to share their perspectives and discuss together how the relationship between East and West Germany and between Germany and Poland is shaping up in the current geopolitical situation. The central question of the evening will be: “How are you dealing with the East-West tension – be it in your family, your environment or in your personal biography?” The dialogue aims to hear and understand the hopes, fears and visions of those present.
Geopolitical tensions and their effects
As BaFin documents, economic, political and military tensions have increased in recent years. These developments not only lead to economic costs, such as rising energy prices and problems in supply chains, but also have far-reaching effects on the financial system. The German financial system is particularly vulnerable to geopolitical shocks because it is heavily integrated into international trade connections. The export quota in 2023 was an impressive 43.4%, which illustrates the country's vulnerability.
BaFin also observes that geopolitical upheavals are often shifted to cyber space and that companies and critical infrastructures are increasingly the target of cyber attacks. These developments not only increase the risks to financial stability, but also complicate the liquidity situations of many companies, especially when restricting their access to international financial markets.
The dialogue evening as an opportunity to express opinions
This dialogue evening aims to create a space in which people can exchange ideas about these challenges. It offers the opportunity to share your own experiences and perspectives in order to promote a better understanding of the different points of view. Given the geopolitical tensions, such an exchange can be helpful in reflecting on the impact on personal and social life.
The project team emphasizes that it is important to focus not only on people's understandable fears but also on people's hopes. The event could help participants to articulate their thoughts and feelings in a public setting and to find common ways to deal with the challenges of the time.
