There were several spectacular police operations in Halle (Saale) on October 28, 2025, which once again put the drug problem in Germany in the spotlight. Detectives from the Halle police station executed a search warrant from the Halle district court, which led to a comprehensive raid on two apartments on Roßbachstrasse and an allotment in Zollrain. During this operation, around 1.7 kilograms of cannabis and around 120 grams of crystal were seized, along with drug paraphernalia for sales, cash and a machete that was at hand. The 63-year-old main accused was provisionally arrested and taken to central police custody, while an application for pre-trial detention via the Halle public prosecutor's office was unfortunately not confirmed on October 29th Saxony-Anhalt reports.

Drug crime is not a new phenomenon in Germany, quite the opposite. To round off the picture, there was another incident that day in which unknown perpetrators damaged the window of an office complex in the Am Bruchsee area. A flower pot was thrown at the window, causing significant damage. Here too, the police are launching criminal investigations.

Drug crime remains an urgent social problem in Germany. There were around 55,500 recorded drug trafficking offenses in 2023, with cannabis clearly being the main substance.
