Restrictions on tram traffic: Germany tour on August 24th!

On Sunday, August 24th, 2025, there will be a lot of activity on the market square in Halle (Saale), because the Deutschland Tour takes place on that day. The event promises not only exciting cycling races, but also a restricted traffic situation for the tram. Because of the tour, some roads have to be closed and numerous detours have to be set up, such as Hall indicator reported.

However, getting there couldn't be easier for visitors, because the movemix_app and the associated movemix_bike enable free travel to nearby stations. For anyone who would like more information, a HAVAG information stand is available on the marketplace and provides information about the various movemix offers.

Tram service will be severely impacted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as the market square will be closed to trams. Things become particularly critical between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., when Große Steinstrasse is no longer passable. Here are the most important diversions:

  • Linie 1: 9.00 bis 15.00 Uhr – Umleitung ab Steinweg/Am Steintor über Magdeburger Straße, Riebeckplatz, Am Leipziger Turm.
  • Linien 2 und 5: 9.00 bis 15.00 Uhr – Umleitungen ab Riebeckplatz/Saline über Glauchaer Platz und Am Leipziger Turm.
  • Linie 3: 9.00 bis 13.30 Uhr – Ab Steinweg/Neues Theater; 13.30 bis 15.00 Uhr – ab Reileck über Willy-Lohmann-Straße.
  • Linie 8: Ab Burg Giebichenstein/Steinweg über Triftstraße.
  • Linie 7: 9.00 bis 13.30 Uhr ab Riebeckplatz; 13.30 bis 15.00 Uhr ab Riebeckplatz/Reileck.
  • Linie 9: Ab Saline/Am Leipziger Turm.
  • Linie 10: Ab Saline/Am Steintor über Glauchaer Platz, Riebeckplatz.
  • Linie 94: Umleitung von 9.00 bis 10.00 Uhr ab Saline.
  • Linie 95: Umleitung von 9.00 bis 10.00 Uhr ab Am Steintor/Steinweg.

In addition, there will be no collective tram connections at 9:20 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the market square. The area between Giebichenstein Castle, Reileck and the market square also remains unavailable from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Germany tour at a glance

The Germany Tour, which ends on August 24th in Halle with the fourth stage, begins on August 20th in Essen. The neutralized start on the market square is scheduled for around 1:45 p.m. and will take the cyclists along a route that runs through picturesque parts of the city. From Leipziger Straße it continues via Hansering and several sights to Peißnitz Island, which is considered an excellent observation point. The crux then continues to the Bridge of Friendship and the utopian landscapes of Halle-Saale-Schleife.

Whether watching or participating, the city of Halle (Saale) has a lot to offer. In order to make the event successful, the city is urgently looking for volunteers who would like to help. If you are interested, you can contact Jana Thieme at jana.thieme@halle or by phone at 0345 221 2318 to receive more information.

In addition to the Germany Tour, the 20th Central German Marathon will take place on October 8, 2023, turning the region between Leipzig and Halle into a sports festival. Here, the running community is cordially invited to run the historic route and join a large audience, as on Halle.de can be read. Not only is health promoted here, but a piece of tradition is also lived on.
