Omanas enamel work in danger: rising energy prices put everyone under pressure!

Lauter-Bernsbach, Deutschland - The Saxon energy industry sees itself with enormous challenges in the face of increasing energy prices. The Omeras enameling in Lauter-Bernsbach in particular is in a critical situation. A renovation procedure was launched in March of this year, and at a conference in Leipzig, Thomas Kunzmann, a representative of the company, reported on liquidity problems and additional costs for energy in the amount of 800,000 euros within one year. The location, which has refined metal in the enamel procedure since 1838 and employs 150 people, is now facing bankruptcy without being in sight, as mayor of the city expresses.

The conference itself served as a platform for discussions about the energy transition and necessary adjustments. Ina Klemm, a member of the Saxon state parliament, called for a permanent reacestration of the energy transition in order to meet the growing challenges. Ines Zenke, President of the SPD economic forum, brought the idea of a special industrial current prize from France as a possible solution. In addition, experts addressed various problems that slow down the energy transition, including the need for reliable framework conditions for companies and the standardization of environmental exams to accelerate projects.

political framework and challenges

In the coalition agreement between the Union and SPD, a commitment to the German and European climate goals and climate neutrality is anchored by 2045. The government plans to advance the expansion of renewable energies and at the same time reduce the costs for companies and citizens. The energy network is a central part of this strategy. Mike Piehler from the Leipzig Stadtwerke emphasizes that an unconvised approach is an obstacle to the implementation of the energy transition. Roland Koch, former Prime Minister of Hesse, calls for an improvement in the infrastructure and faster project implementations through a combination of private and public commitment to increase efficiency.

In terms of financing, the energy transition may need 721 billion euros by 2030, according to a study by the BDEW. These funds are to be applied by special funds and investment funds in order to implement the energy transition. The flexibility of the electricity market and the improvement of the synchronization of wind power and network expansion is also sought.

global investments and trends

At the global level, the current trends show that China leads to the energy transition in investments, followed by the USA and Germany, which takes third place. This is in the context of growing importance of renewable energies that are almost unlimited and include technologies such as bioenergy, geothermal energy, hydropower, solar and wind energy. The global investments in the low-carbon energy transition are already $ 501 billion. According to a report, plant financing is the largest part of these investments, which indicates a rethinking in the energy industry in order to deploy from fossil energy sources.

In order to master the challenges of the energy transition, extensive measures and investments are necessary. Experts emphasize that the combination of new technologies and a clear political direction is crucial for reaching the climate goals. Because of the current crisis situation, as it becomes clear, for example, at the OMERA's enamel work, it has to be traded quickly to overcome liquidity problems and to secure the continued existence of such companies. The debate about the necessary energy transition is therefore becoming increasingly pressing, while politicians still have to work out many concrete measures in order to achieve the given climate goals and at the same time minimize economic stress for citizens and companies.
