Family day at the HTZ: fun and knowledge for young and old on August 16th!
An exciting event is coming up in the Stadtwerke Halle: The Family Day in the Historical Technology Center (HTZ) on Saturday, August 16, 2025, invites families, children and adults to an educational afternoon. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can discover numerous interactive stations in the former Turmstrasse substation on Lutherplatz.
The family day offers a colorful program that combines both entertainment and education. The focus is particularly on the topics of air flow, solar energy and hydropower, which can be experienced through exciting experiments and activities. A highlight is the tram simulator, which allows little visitors to test the driving experience themselves. Anyone who proves their knowledge with quiz questions can expect prizes. And for the little ones there is a painting and craft street as well as a giant bubble event, which are guaranteed to make their eyes light up. The first 100 guests can also look forward to a special surprise: They will receive a duck for the Rotary duck race, which will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, on the Saale beach at Ziegelwiese.
Active with education
The HTZ, which has been in operation as a listed building since 2012, also offers learning modules that deal with the technical history of Halle (Saale) and shed light on the development of the municipal utilities. The offering also includes the SWH discovery station with 12 hands-on activities on topics such as energy, waste disposal, IT and mobility, as well as a measurement laboratory in which visitors can carry out experiments on physical quantities such as length, weight and light. In this way, the HTZ also brings together a broad public and opens its doors to school classes who like to use this extracurricular learning location.
The family day offering is supplemented by various activities that can be derived from modern educational approaches at all-day schools. The focus here is on suggestions and exciting projects that are planned by educational specialists. These promote a communally responsible lifestyle and enable the children to organize their own afternoons in a meaningful way, with activities from various educational areas such as movement, art, technology and research.

Admission to the entire event is free, which makes the event even more attractive. For further information and to get in the mood for the duck race, those interested can visit the website www.rotary-entenlaufen.de.
