Halle (Saale) is planning a green heating transition: information event on September 25th!
A significant measure to implement the heating transition is imminent in Halle (Saale): On September 25, 2025, an information event entitled “Decide today how to heat tomorrow” will take place in the Handel Hall. The city has set itself ambitious goals and plans to become greenhouse gas neutral by 2040. The focus is on a sustainable, climate-friendly and socially acceptable heating supply. An essential part of this strategy is the collaboration of many actors to jointly set the course for a sustainable heat supply, reports Hall indicator.
The event details have already been determined: The doors open at 5 p.m., with a lecture by the mayor Dr. Alexander Vogt is planned in the Great Hall. A themed market with various information stands will take place in the foyer from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Here visitors can find out everything about the municipal heating plan, the advantages of district heating and how heat pumps work and benefit. Another highlight is the HeatingCheck advisory tool and the FundingFinder contact point for possible funding opportunities. The program is supplemented by the Building Atlas and Building Check, which are aimed specifically at homeowners, as well as the presentation of the Energy Initiative and the State Energy Agency of Saxony-Anhalt (LENA).
The importance of the heat transition
The heat transition is no small matter. In Germany, around 35% of final energy consumption and around 30% of CO₂ emissions come from the operation of buildings. A sustainable heat supply is essential to sustainably reduce climate-damaging emissions, as the Federal Environment Agency states in an overview of the heat transition. Municipal heat planning (KWP) is described as a strategic instrument for switching to renewable energies. In order to achieve the climate goals in the national Climate Protection Act (KSG), continuous measures are necessary that are primarily aimed at preventing heat waste.
The city of Halle has recognized that not only innovative approaches but also citizens must be included in the heating transition. Therefore, a program for children and young people is offered in the small hall of the Handel Hall, which deals with the topics of heat, energy and environmental protection. A new energy transition game developed by employees of the municipal utility company will also be presented. This not only underlines the importance of education in this area, but also the responsibility of the younger generation for a sustainable future.
The path to a climate-friendly future
In order to achieve Halle's climate goals, the use of renewable energies is essential. Innovative processes such as serial renovation and targeted energy saving measures must be an integral part of the implementation strategy. Digitalization plays a crucial role in this by enabling better monitoring and effective control of heat consumption. The federal government has already introduced several funding programs for the decarbonization of heat, and municipalities are required to use these framework conditions effectively to realize a climate- and socially compatible heat supply.
With this in mind, the city invites all interested citizens to actively participate in the event on September 25th. Together we can lay the foundation for a better, sustainable heating supply that will significantly reduce our ecological footprint. The path to the energy transition leads through dialogue, collaboration and informed decisions, like this Report from the Federal Environment Agency impressively presented.
