Ironman Frankfurt 2025: Everything about the route and traffic restrictions!

On June 29, 2025 it's that time again: The 23rd Mainova IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt is on the program. Over 3,000 participants from different nations will take part in the 225-kilometer route, which consists of 3.8 km of swimming in the Langener Waldsee, 180 km of cycling through the Frankfurt area and a 42 km long marathon along the Main. The event promises not only exciting competitions, but also a great atmosphere for spectators and athletes alike.

The Ironman in Frankfurt has established itself as one of the most important triathlon events in Germany in recent years. Organizers and organizers do everything they can to guarantee that things run smoothly while at the same time doing justice to the residents. Traffic restrictions are expected from 3:30 a.m. to midnight on race day, so drivers are advised to position themselves outside the restricted areas. According to FFH, the traffic information hotline can be reached on 069 - 212 340 000 to find out about the changes before and during the event.

The route and highlights

As usual, the swimming route takes place in the Langener Waldsee over a distance of 3.8 km. The cycle route stretches over 180 km and leads through beautiful landscapes around Frankfurt. Highlights include the city center and the famous Hanauer Landstrasse. Even if the cycle route is closed to traffic, some crossings at locks may be possible. The starting point is the Langener Waldsee, while the marathon runs on both sides of the Main and finally ends on the Römerberg. Here, spectators can look forward to the Finish Line Party, which will provide the best entertainment from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

There will be plenty of good places for spectators to cheer on the athletes, whether swimming, cycling or running. Places such as the Alte Brücke/Mainkai, the Maintal-Hochstadt (“THE HELL”) and, during the marathon, the Untermainbrücke as well as the museum-rich bank are particularly impressive. The noise caused by the competition will also be unavoidable for everyone involved, but also part of the exciting atmosphere that defines an Ironman.

Public transport and information for residents

The city of Frankfurt has agreed to take extensive measures to cause as little inconvenience as possible to residents. S-Bahn and subway trains will run as planned, but restrictions on tram and bus traffic are to be expected. Ironman.com lists detailed changes to bus and tram traffic, including the affected lines. The RMV service telephone on 069 / 24 24 80 24 is available for questions.

According to Leidenschaft Triathlon, there are around 600 triathlon events per year in Germany, and the number of participants increases from year to year. Events like the Ironman in Frankfurt are not only important for the athletes, but also for the fans and the entire city - a real community event that brings everyone together and creates excitement.
