Get creative in Frankfurt (Oder): urban gardening at the future square!

On Friday, September 19, 2025, Slubice Street in Frankfurt (Oder) will be the setting for an exciting creative workshop that is all about urban gardening. From 2:30 p.m., all residents and interested parties are invited to work together to design a new place for gardening in the city. On the future square with its lively atmosphere, ideas will be collected to design and create a plant sculpture and a raised bed. The workshop promises not only practical gardening, but also plenty of space for creativity and art in public spaces, as frankfurt-oder.de reports.

What exactly can participants expect? To start with, there will be a free guided tour of Große Scharrnstrasse at 2:30 p.m., followed by practical work from 3:30 p.m. Here participants can get creative with old, upcycled materials such as Tetra Paks, cans or plant pots. In addition to building planters that can be taken home, the focus is on designing a plant sculpture that will enrich the cityscape. The work uses colors and a wide variety of materials to create a unique work of art for the future square.

Art and community

The workshop is not only an excellent opportunity to express one's own creativity, but also an opportunity to exchange ideas with neighbors and strengthen a sense of community. The event combines the concept of art in public space with the needs of local residents and their commitment to sustainable cities. As seenland-oderspree.de also emphasizes, the goal is to create a place that is not only functional, but also serves as a welcoming space for the community.

Based on similar projects documented on dieurbanisten.de, this workshop shows the potential for urban change through citizen engagement. The active participation of the population in shaping their environment is central to creating lively and sustainable living spaces.
