Medical students from 12 countries: Together for healthy aging!
The “Academic Immersion Travel” (AIT) event will take place at the University Medical Center Halle from June 26th to 30th, 2025, in which around 100 medical students from 12 different countries will take part. The aim of the meeting is to establish international contacts and shed light on innovative developments in geriatric medicine. The motto of this issue is: “Science Diplomacy – Healthy Aging”. How umh.de reports, participants will be provided with scientific contributions from experts and fellow students as well as interactive workshops and exciting panel discussions on healthy aging.
The program reflects the international focus of the event and also includes visits to important locations such as the Meckel Collections and the “Innovation Hub” for Digital Health. A convivial conclusion with a city tour and a barbecue at the Steintor Medical Campus rounds off the event.
A valuable exchange
The AIT is not just a one-off event, but part of the larger International Collaboration and Exchange Program (ICEP), which was launched in 2014 at Columbia University in New York City. This initiative supports intercultural exchange and enables medical students to take part in international research projects and study visits. Participants, including students from allied health professions, benefit from a network that now includes almost 40 leading medical universities on five continents. You can find out more about this at internationalcollaborationexchange.org.
Of particular note are the numerous opportunities that ICEP offers to enrich cultural diversity and share global health care knowledge. Prof. Dr. Heike Kielstein, Dean of the MLU Medical Faculty, emphasizes how important scientific exchange is for international understanding.
A look at the future
After their stay in Halle, the international guests will travel to Berlin from June 30th to July 2nd. The program includes team building activities as well as laboratory and campus tours. A highlight will be the tour of the Charité Medical History Museum. The next exchange in Barcelona is already planned for 2026 in the coming years.
In the context of global health issues, the event also highlights the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to improving health worldwide. The topic of “Global Health” will be the focus of the German Science and Innovation Houses in 2025. The main focus is on combating infectious diseases and health inequalities. Loud dwih-netzwerk.de International collaboration is essential to overcome healthcare challenges and develop sustainable solutions.
The AIT and the ICEP are not only important events for promoting science diplomacy, but also important steps in the preparation of young doctors for international leadership roles in the health sector. We can't wait to see what new ideas and collaborations will emerge from this exchange.
