On Monday, June 2, 2025, unknown fraudsters failed in Cuxhaven when they tried to steal money from a 97-year-old woman. The senior citizen proposed by phone by an alleged bank employee to withdraw a five -digit cash amount, as there is increasing counterfeit money in circulation. First she followed these instructions and called a taxi ordered by the fraudsters to a bank branch on Kaemmererplatz.

Thanks to the watchful bank employee, there was no financial damage. The police informed them about the suspicious incident. The police and financial institutions confirm that they never check money for authenticity by calling customers.
