Summer holidays in the Halle City Museum: playing, crafting and discovering!

The Halle City Museum has come up with something special again this year: from July 1st to August 7th, 2025, children and families can take part in an exciting summer holiday program. On eight days full of fun and creative activities, exciting events await young and old participants every day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The focus is on the special exhibition “Play with!”, which invites participants to rediscover games from bygone times and experience them for themselves. This makes the program a real adventure for young and old that ensures there is no chance of boredom. Hallanzeiger reports.

The organizers have put together a colorful potpourri of activities ranging from medieval tournament games to the brand new “Historical Pocket Games” workshop. Children and adults have the opportunity to try out games like the Roman round mill or Alquerque and even make them themselves. A special highlight will be the tower building workshop, where imaginative towers can be built using various materials. This not only promotes creativity, but also teamwork among the participants.

Variety of offers

On the first two dates on July 1st and 2nd, participants will take part in the events “Tower Building in Halle” and “Playfully through the Enlightenment Period” in the city museum. Here you can not only test your own skills, but also learn a lot about history and discover it while having fun. The other selection includes exciting activities such as tin casting, archery and the making of historical wax tablets - a true treasure trove for creative minds and history lovers. The following dates are on the program:

  • 1.7. | Stadtmuseum: Turmbau zu Halle
  • 2.7. | Stadtmuseum: Spielerisch durch die Aufklärungszeit
  • 22.7. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Zinnguss
  • 23.7. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Mittelalterliche Turnierspiele
  • 24.7. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Historische Taschenspiele
  • 5.8. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Ritter auf dem Giebichenstein
  • 6.8. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Mittelalterliche Turnierspiele (Wiederholung)
  • 7.8. | Oberburg Giebichenstein: Wachstafel statt Notebook

Admission prices are very fair: children and young people up to 14 years of age have free entry. Adults pay 4 euros (reduced 2.50 euros) for the Giebichenstein Upper Castle and 5 euros (reduced 3 euros) for the city museum. To cover the craft materials, a flat rate material fee of 5 euros is required, which can be reduced to 3 euros with the “FerienSpaßpass” from the Saalesparkasse. This ensures good access to this great program for everyone. The city museum website provides further information and registration options.

In the neighborhood, for example in Frankfurt, there are similar programs that aim to offer children and young people creative opportunities for development. Many institutions are active here during the summer holidays and programs such as “Imagination Gives You Wings” are offered, which encourage young participants to travel through time and experiment. In Halle, too, it is clear that the focus is on cultural offerings for families. Museum embankment underlines the importance of such programs for social development.

Anyone looking for an exciting activity during the summer holidays will find a wide range of activities in the Halle City Museum that skilfully combine history, games and creativity. Pack up the craft materials and join in – the holidays are the perfect time to discover new things!
