Summer theater on the Oberburg: Be careful with the axe” starts!

There will soon be an exciting outdoor theater experience in Halle (Saale)! The new theater season at the Oberburg Giebichenstein starts on July 16, 2025 with the comedy “Be careful with the axe”, staged by the theater group “Konsortium Luft & Tiefen”. This reports Hall spectrum.

The piece, which is performed in this historic castle ruin on Seebener Straße, illuminates “the power of storytelling” in a humorous way. The actors skilfully move between flying blind and overestimating themselves while presenting fairy tales, myths and their own stories. The audience can look forward to a colorful whirlwind of truths and false reports woven into an absurd narrative tapestry.

Dates and appointments

The first performance will take place on Wednesday, July 16th at 8:30 p.m. Further performances are from July 16th to 20th and July 23rd to 27th, always at the same time. A total of ten performances are planned, representing large outdoor theater productions. The city of Halle (Saale) supports the project as part of its cultural funding.

An association for open-air theater

The “Air & Deep Consortium” is a creative association of co-producers from three federal states - including the Schaustelle Halle, Theaterschafft Leipzig and the Künstlerhaus Thüringen Schloss Kannawurf. Its goal is to represent the oldest form of dramatic art, outdoor theater, on a professional basis. Loud Hall showplace the name of the consortium is a reference to the deeper engagement with the open-air theater tradition, which takes into account aspects that are often ignored.

Freedom and irreverence, coupled with situational drama and interaction with the audience, are the focus of the productions. This not only makes the performances a feast for the senses, but also invites critical discussion.

Theater history in the open air

The open-air theater has an impressive history that dates back to ancient times. A dissertation by Frank Dittmer examines the modern history of open-air theater and the impact it has on the connection between people and public celebrations. In her analysis, Dittmer spans the period from the imperial era through the Weimar Republic and the Nazi era to modern times.

If you would like to find out more about it or want to secure tickets for the upcoming performances, you can do so via the Schaustelle's website: Schaustelle-halle.de/be-careful-with-the-axe.
