Brandenburg's best young talent: winner of the Olympics chosen!
Potsdam, Deutschland - On June 7, 2025, the winners of this year's IT Olympics of the State of Brandenburg were awarded at the University of Potsdam in Golm. The competition took place on June 5 and 6 and aimed to inspire young people for computer science and promote their skills. A total of 23 participants took part in the Olympics, which were evaluated by a jury of computer science professors, teachers and students. State Secretary for Education Hendrik Fischer congratulated the successful participants and praised their commitment.
First place went to Florian Wunderlich (17) from the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium Dallgow-Döberitz, while Katharina Walcher (17) from the Hermann-von-Helmholtz-Gymnasium Potsdam took second place. Third place has been awarded several times: Justus Wettach (17) from the same high school as the first place, Jonathan Panzer (17) and Ansgar Müller (17) from the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Gymnasium Frankfurt (Oder) shared this rank.
competition format and training goal
The IT Olympiad comprised two demanding days. On the first day, the participants had to program and solve algorithmic tasks in the team. The second day was dedicated to the presentation of their general knowledge and approaches in computer science. The participants were supervised by computer science students at the Hasso Plattner Institute.
The competition has a long tradition and has been organized annually since 2017 by the Brandenburg State Association to the Promotion of Mathematical-Natural Science-Technically interested students (Blis), the Hasso Plattner Institute and the Institute for Computer Science and Computational Science at the University of Potsdam. The aim of the event is to encourage students to deal intensively with computer science, their methods, content and applications. The positive feedback from the participants shows the successful interest in this important field.
perspectives for the participants
The Olympiad participants also have the opportunity to take part in further competitions. The Federal Competition of Computer Science is aimed at young people up to 21 years and offers a platform to deepen one's own knowledge in computer science. To do this, the participants must also be independent of their studies or their professional day and can take part in various workshops that are beneficial for the development of their skills. The best young computer scientists nationwide are also selected for the international computer science Olympics.
Overall, the Brandenburg Computer Science Olympiad impressively shows how important it is to discover and promote young talents in computer science. It makes a significant contribution to the education and career development of such students.
