AI revolutionizes inclusion: opportunities for people with disabilities

A new research project called Stark-LS has set itself the goal of improving the participation of people with disabilities in the first labor market through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The project was launched in March 2025 and included institutions from the Germersheim district. The use of AI is to create materials in a light language to support people with cognitive impairments and increase their employment opportunities. This was reported by the Rheinpfalz .

Light language is characterized by short sentences, easy readability and a clearly defined set of rules. This language simplification is intended to increase the intelligibility of information, which means that people with cognitive restrictions can better integrate into work and team processes. Currently, some authorities already offer websites in a light language, which improves the accessibility of public information.

project goals and support

The central element of the Stark-LS project is the organization of internships for people with disabilities, especially for those who have so far hardly been working on the general labor market. The management of the project is responsible for the Institute for Learning and Innovation in Network of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the Department of Translation, Language and Cultural Studies (FTSK) in Germersheim and the district administration Germersheim. A Munich start-up that Summ ai GmbH , brings a Ki-based translation software into the project.

The Stark-LS project is funded with around 1.2 million euros by the Federal Ministry of Education and Social Affairs (BMAS). Politicians from various factions, including MdB Parsa Marvi (SPD) and MdB Dr. Zoe Mayer (Greens), support the project, which is considered a sustainable contribution to improving opportunities for people with disabilities.

long -term vision and social effects

The long -term vision of the project includes the development of procedural models to sustainably improve the integration of people with disabilities into the labor market. Dr. Tobias Kopp, the project manager, underlines that modern AI solutions have the potential to provide understandable information and to persuade companies to integrate people with disabilities. The project shows how AI can accept social challenges and reduce barriers.

The spread of AI also changes the world of work in a variety of ways. For neurodive-forgotten people, such as autistic, AI technologies can be both supportive tools and new job opportunities. The Severely disabled people's representatives (SBV) are important contact points for employees in companies in relation to participation and inclusion and support these developments that bring about opportunities and new challenges.
