Kyiv is preparing for massive Russian offensive and new drone attacks
Pokrowsk, Ukraine - Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj warns of an upcoming new Russian offensive and sees no signs of ending war or serious diplomatic efforts by Russia. In the last three days, a record number of Russian drone attacks on Ukraine has been recorded that triggered air alarm in the Sumy, Charkiw, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolajiw and the Black Sea towards Odessa. The Ukrainian Air Force reported on the use of Schahed drones, while explosions were reported in Sumy, which are described as massive. These attacks have been the highest level since the beginning of the war.
According to the Ukrainian general staff, there were 141 Russian advances, 53 being recorded in the strategically important area of Pokrowsk. Despite the massive destruction in this region, the Russian troops are hardly progressing. Military experts also warn of a possible offensive in the north of Ukraine, especially in the Sumy area. President Vladimir Putin plans to use a 30 -kilometer border strip in Ukraine as a buffer zone. Selenskyj described the Russian attacks as a mockery of peace efforts, possibly in connection with criticism of US President Donald Trump.
Russian drone attacks and Ukrainian countermeasures
Massive Ukrainian drone attacks have recently met a refinery and two power plants in Moscow. A fire broke out in the Kapotnja refinery, but was contained by the fire brigade. Mayor Sergej Sobjanin reported rubble of drones in the surrounding area of Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that he had intercept 158 Ukrainian drones over 15 regions - the highest number in this conflict. These offensive steps of Ukraine aim to take Russian industrial plants, since Ukraine currently does not have far -reaching weapons.
Selenskyj appealed to his western partners to provide more weapons to enable attacks in Russian hinterland. Talks are currently taking place between a Ukrainian delegation and the USA to discuss possible targets for the use of long -distance weapons. So far, however, the western partners have expressed concerns and did not allow Ukraine to shoot on Russian territory with heavy weapons.
drones as a key technology in conflict
drones play a crucial role in the overall course of this conflict. Ukraine has trained special soldiers to shoot Ukrainian FPV drones (First Person View) with shotguns. At the same time, Ukraine has developed an acoustic detection system to identify attacking drones at an early stage and improve its interference techniques against enemy radio connections. Russia, on the other hand, uses Kamikaze drones that explode in an aggressive way to achieve their goals. Experts also warn that Russia is experimenting to control drones more flexible and robust.
The intensive use of drones could also help to alleviate the recruitment problem of Ukraine because they offer more secure possible uses. Nevertheless, Ukraine has technical restrictions, for example difficulties in the simultaneous operation of several drones through an operator. The continued conflict that began over two years ago clearly shows that warfare has changed through innovative technologies such as drones and will continue to develop in the future.
Selenskyj pushes for increased pressure on Moscow through further sanctions, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) announced that there are no longer any restrictions on the use of German weapons against Russian territory. This decision was criticized by SPD politician Ralf Stegner as "not helpful" and increased diplomatic efforts are required. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow described Merz 'statements as "rather dangerous decisions", which represent a clear change of course compared to his predecessor, Olaf Scholz (SPD).
The situation is tense for Ukraine, and the need for additional air defense systems, in particular to protect schools and cities, remains urgent. On the fronts in eastern Ukraine there were 109 armed clashes in one day, with a focus on the fights in the area of Pokrowsk. The location remains complex and dynamic, while both sides adapt to new strategies.
