Schorndorfer Kantorei enchants with Rossini's lively trade fair

On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the Evangelical City Church in Schorndorf became the scene of a musical event that inspired the audience. The Schorndorfer Kantorei, under the direction of Julian Handlos, performed Gioachino Rossini's significant composition, the "Petite Messe solennelle". This performance began with a positive piano intro, which together with the harmonium ensured a special acoustic atmosphere.

A striking feature of this performance was the conscious deviation from traditional trade fair elements. Instead of a massive orchestra and passionate pathos, an intimate and modern performance was chosen. The excellent soloists, including Natalie Karl (soprano), Joanna Jaworowska (Alt), Marcus Elsässer (tenor) and Kai Preußker (bass), contributed to making the work of Rossini alive.

an important work of church music

The "Petite Messe Solennelle" is considered one of the most important works of Rossini's church music and was composed in his last years. The Schorndorfer Kantorei has thus developed a special place in the cultural life of the region. Tickets for this impressive evening were available at prices from 15 to 25 euros, with reduced tariffs were offered for pupils and students.

The performance took place at 7 p.m. in the town church of Schorndorf, a place that is regularly used for cultural events. The success of the Schorndorfer Kantorei shows how alive the church music scene is and what importance such events have for the community.

Rossini's musical heir

The "Petite Messe Solennelle" is part of an extensive work by Rossini, whose works have come into focus since the 1980s. International festivals, such as the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, take place every year, and the works of the composer are performed worldwide. This Renaissance of the Rossini plant has meant that pieces that were once forgotten find discovery today.

In addition, numerous productions are planned for the coming years, including "Mosè in Egitto" and "Guillaume Tell", which are listed in different cities. With its performance on June 1st, the Schorndorfer Kantorei opened another chapter in this musical history, which can be heard both in the region and internationally.
