Pumuckl-Stampel in Munich: Traut's walking pleasure at the Kult-Trehort!

Dachauer Straße, 80335 München, Deutschland - in Munich, a new traffic light was recently installed on the corner of Dachauer and Emmy-Noether-Straße, which shows a figure of the popular scraping sack ume pumuckl. These pumuckl stamp signals pedestrians when they can cross the street. The idea for this traffic light came into being by Bernd Marschallek, the first chairman of the NW03 allotment garden association, which was inspired by a similar traffic light in the Lehel district. The district committee unanimously approved the application to install the traffic lights. The responsible persons originally applied for four pumuckl camps, but only one was approved. During the planning, the mobility presentation made a proposal for a sign that should explain the meaning of the traffic light, but this was rejected. District residents and Pumuckl fans are still enthusiastic about the new attraction, which not only serves a cultural heritage, but also the safety of pedestrians.

The surroundings of the new traffic light have a special connection to the television program "Master Eder and his pumuckl". In the 1980s, three episodes of the popular series were rotated nearby, including "Pumuckl and the fruit trees", "Pumuckl and the ghost" as well as "Pumuckl on witch hunt". Historical arbors that were shown in the episodes are still preserved, while the original building from the episode "Pumuckl on witch hunt" has now been demolished. For fans of the series there are special tours that lead to the original locations and give an insight into the history of little goblet.

pumuckl in the history of Munich

pumuckl was created by Ellis Kaut in the 1960s and has been very popular since then. The stories about the cheeky Kobold reflect life in Munich, especially in the former workers' suburbs such as Lehel and Haidhausen. The TV series, which was produced by the Bavarian Radio, contributed significantly to the popularity of the figure. The Lehel district, where the first Pumuckl-Stampel was inaugurated on February 6, 2025, was an important location for the series. Several traffic lights with the Pumuckl silhouette have already been installed in Lehel and the surrounding area, including at the intersections Robert-Koch- und Sternstraße as well as star and Widenmayerstrasse, and there are other locations in examination.

The well -known workshop of Master Eder, played by Gustl Bayrhammer, was located on Widenmayerstrasse. However, the building was demolished in 1985. Today, only the entrance gate to the courtyard reminds of past times. Pumuckl is not only part of television history, but also a piece of Munich's cultural identity. The new edition of the series "New Stories from Pumuckl", which has been running in the cinema and RTL+ since December 2023, shows that the fascination for Pumuckl survives generations. This new interpretation includes districts and squares in Munich, which reproduce the domestic attitude to life and tell the adventures of the goblin.
