rescue operations and challenges
Only recently there was a large-scale deployment of the mountain rescue service in the spa town of Rathen. On April 22, 2025, the emergency services were challenged twice. The first assignment occurred at 11:15 a.m. on the Flößersteig, where a 76-year-old man from Berlin was injured with a tear of the Achilles tendon. The mountain rescue guard took over the transport in a wicker stretcher and secured the patient with a 100 meter long rope before being handed over to the DRK rescue service.
Another dramatic use followed in the evening at 7:30 p.m. A 63-year-old man from Leipzig had fallen into a column at Bad Schandau about seven meters. A couple discovered the injured and alerted the mountain rescue service. This immediately moved out, whereby a rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene of the accident with an emergency doctor. The man was provided medically, transported over a kilometer in a wicker stretcher and finally flown to the hospital with the rescue helicopter.
