Berlin in the crisis: Schulze demands plan, coalition remains silent!
In the political landscape of Berlin, it rumbles tremendously. On June 23, 2025, the group leader Tobias Schulze commented on the current situation of the CDU SPD coalition. The balance? Not exactly intoxicating! Schulze criticized that many of the projects set out in the coalition agreement were sent to the queue. There could be no question of a clear plan for the capital, and the in the midst of pressing crises in the areas of living, education and mobility, to which the coalition partners simply do not react.
The housing in Berlin remains a central concern. The reports about the increasing construction costs and interest rates that were reinforced by the Ukraine conflict are alarming. [BMWSB] describes that the federal government has taken measures, but construction interest rates have dropped significantly since the end of 2023. Nevertheless, the new apartment is still a bubbling topic. Last year the price for new buildings rose by around 3.1 % compared to the previous year, while the number of subsidized residential units in social housing increased by 21 %.
Criticism of missing measures
Tobias Schulze also accused the coalition that the socio -political components are neglected. This means, for example, that support for young violent offenders and certain areas of youth work have been deleted. In the meantime, an extension of the police powers is discussed. Here Schulze sees a clear contradiction: "How should more security be achieved with the simultaneous reduction of social work?"
At the same time, practical solutions for the renovation of the urban budget are missing. The proposed measures such as transaction loans and a reform of the real estate transfer tax have so far remained without implementation. Schulze complained that the SPD had not agreed on any rental policy project with the CDU and described the previous efforts to socialize as ineffective. With the failed initiative of the housing alliance, the dream of affordable living for many Berliners first burst.
cities need room for maneuver
as [City Day] emphasized in an assessment of the coalition agreement, the financial scope for action for cities is crucial. A billion -dollar financial package has already been adopted and is intended to help the municipalities to master the current challenges. The goal: to create future -proof cities that have to make clear progress, especially in social housing and the recognition of foreign specialists.
The interaction from reduction in bureaucracy, social infrastructure and the necessary improvements in terms of old debts should give the cities back the options for action they need in order not only to be a defect manager, but to be able to actively shape.
As part of future planning, it is also important to develop a clear perspective that gives the population security. An incentive for private investors could follow the gentle reduction in construction costs in order to get back into housing and create the urgently needed living space.
The coming months will show whether the coalition of the CDU and SPD gets the curve and puts the urgent topics on the agenda. The citizens of Berlin expect no less than a capable and future -oriented Berlin.
This is the state of affairs - we stay tuned and continue to report on new developments.
