Bloody violence in Gesundbrunnen: Police debunk gang war rumors
Over the weekend there were several frightening acts of violence in the Gesundbrunnen district of Berlin, which put residents on alert. Despite the bloody incidents and one death on Saturday evening, July 20, 2025, police and prosecutors emphasize that there is no evidence of a gang war. “It looks more like a random escalation of violence,” explains public prosecutor Sebastian Büchner.
A total of three acts of violence were recorded within a few hours. The first incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Prinzenallee, where an unknown perpetrator shot a man and fled. Fortunately, the victim was able to undergo emergency surgery and is out of danger. Around two hours later, around 9 p.m., a 30-year-old man was injured in an argument on Bastianstrasse and died shortly afterwards in hospital from his serious stab wounds. The murder squad is investigating here and is trying to find out the background to the incident.
Further incidents are straining the situation
The third incident occurred around 11 p.m. in Humboldthain, where a man got into an argument with a group of around seven people and received three stabs in his lower back. He was also taken to hospital, but his life is not in danger. In these cases, too, there is so far no evidence of a connection between the incidents, as is the case with both tagesschau.de and [t-online.de].
Acts of violence were already reported on Friday evening in other parts of Berlin, including Kreuzberg and Neukölln. A 26-year-old man was shot in front of a restaurant on Bergmannstrasse and the perpetrator fled. Another incident occurred on Sonnenallee, where a 39-year-old man was shot in the legs on the street and suffered serious injuries.
A district on the pulse of violence
In the past, Gesundbrunnen has repeatedly had to deal with violent crimes and arguments. Current events are once again raising questions about the safety of residents. In particular, the lack of clarity about the nationality of those involved in these incidents makes the situation all the more explosive.
The security authorities are now faced with the challenge of finding out the causes and background of these violent acts and minimizing the risks to public safety. In a city known for its colorful diversity, one can only hope that such violent scenarios do not become part of everyday life.
