Together against anti-Semitism: memory of Holocaust victims in Berlin!

On June 5, 2025, the German Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul and his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar paid respect to the approximately six million Jews of Europe's murdered in Berlin at the Holocaust Memorial. This commemorative event underlined the persistent obligation to combat anti -Semitism and to promote Jewish life in Germany.

WADEPHUL took the opportunity to point out the terrifying reality that anti -Semitic crimes in Germany have reached a new high. At the same time, he warned that Jews in Germany feel increasingly uncertain and even asked not to speak Hebrew on the street. This is an alarming signal that should not become normal in society.

increasing anti -Semitic incidents

Johann WadePhul and Gideon Saar reported alarming figures: In 2024, 8,600 anti -Semitic incidents were registered in Germany, which represents an increase of 77 percent compared to the previous year. Saar critically found that "80 years after the end of the Holocaust the teachings were apparently forgotten" and emphasized the dangers that Jews are exposed to in Europe and Germany.

The increase in anti -Semitic crimes has originated in the violence against Israel initiated by Hamas since October 7, 2023. Since this date, 2,249 anti -Semitic crimes have been recorded in Germany. Central Council President Josef Schuster reported on a reduced visibility of Jewish life and recently initiated a campaign under the motto "Stop Repeating Stories" to promote more sympathy and civil courage in society.

support and security for Jewish life

In view of these worrying developments, the Berlin police have strengthened security measures in front of synagogues and Jewish institutions. The protection comprises 163 Jewish or Israeli facilities with a total of 675 workers. Despite these measures, the uncertainty in the Jewish community remains great: Many do without traditional Mesusen and even change their Jewish-sounding names in order and taxi apps for fear of attacks.

The EU also took steps to combat anti -Semitism. In a first progress report on the EU strategy against anti-Semitism, EU Commission President Margaritis Schina is emphasized the deteriorated situation for Jews in Europe and refers to the need to follow national strategies to combat anti-Semitism and to support Jewish institutions financially.

The commitment to a safe and open Jewish life in Germany and Europe is more important than ever. Both political and social responsibility are to decide to counter anti -Semitism and to create an environment in which Jewish life is valued and promoted.

The current events illustrate that society, but also the state, are jointly demanded in order to make the concerns of the Jewish community hear and actively oppose any form of discrimination. The use for a solidary and respect -shaped society is urgently required.
