Big day of action for senior safety at Potsdamer Platz!
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the fourth day of action on traffic safety will take place at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin-Mitte. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Berlin police, the federal police as well as the Berlin fire department and partners of the Charter for Road Safety will present themselves at this important event. The focus is on the safety of our seniors, who are particularly at risk as unprotected road users, as the Federal Ministry of Transport emphasizes.
An incredible 59.3% of cyclists and pedestrians who died in accidents in 2023 were at least 65 years old. This shows how important it is to respond to the needs of this age group. With a total of 34 stands, the day of action offers a variety of topics, including visibility in road traffic, bicycle safety and special information on safety on the way to school and accident-related aspects such as distraction-related risks.
Interactive experiences to participate in
The event not only offers knowledge stands, but also interactive experiences. These include, among other things, a light tunnel, a reaction wall, a helmet test device as well as noise goggles and an e-scooter driving simulator. The use of virtual reality glasses, which offer insights into realistic traffic situations, will also be particularly exciting. A variety of activities are available for younger visitors: a bicycle course and a quiz rally provide variety and fun.
Another highlight is the possibility of police identification of bicycles, which is possible on site upon presentation of identification documents and proof of ownership. This initiative is welcomed by those responsible for the Berlin police and is intended to help prevent bicycle thefts and increase road safety.
The importance of enlightenment
The danger to older people in traffic should not be underestimated. Age-related changes in perception and reaction can mean that seniors are particularly at risk. It is therefore essential to provide information about potential dangers. Events like the “Stay mobile, but safe!” action day. help to raise awareness among older people and encourage them to act more safely.
The Federal Ministry of Transport supports various measures to promote road safety that are specifically tailored to older people, such as seminars to assess one's own performance and training programs for safe cycling and the use of walkers. “Sicher mobil” offers information and support for seniors so that they can travel safely in old age.
With these different approaches, the day of action will not only contribute to raising awareness, but will also represent an important step towards greater road safety for all age groups. Anyone interested in the safety of their senior citizens should not miss this event!
