Crisis alert: Berlin increases protection of Jewish institutions after attacks!
The situation between Israel and Iran is getting worse, which is also having a direct impact on Germany. RBB24 reports that the Israeli embassy in Berlin will remain closed for the time being, and air traffic from BER airport to Tel Aviv has been suspended until further notice. In this tense situation, the Berlin police are keeping an eye on the situation, but do not currently see any increased risk. It is also emphasized that the security situation is continuously reviewed and adjustments are made to the protective measures if necessary.
In light of recent developments, the Brandenburg police have increased protection of Jewish institutions, particularly in Potsdam. The Commissioner against Anti-Semitism in Brandenburg also calls for permanent protection for these institutions. There were temporarily no new registrations for demonstrations related to the conflict accepted until midday on Friday, underlining the current tension.
Military escalation between Israel and Iran
The reasons for the increased security measures lie primarily in recent events. Loud Daily Mirror Israel carried out targeted attacks on Iran on Friday night to stop the development of nuclear weapons. Two top Iranian military officials and at least six nuclear scientists were reportedly killed. Israeli government officials announced that the military action would continue in the coming days.
Iran was alarmed and responded by deploying around 100 drones towards Israel, but all of them were intercepted. Iran's foreign minister has described the Israeli attack as a declaration of war and the uranium enrichment facility in Nathan, Iran, was badly damaged. Despite these violent developments, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, there are no increased radiation levels.
Protective measures for German citizens and institutions
In the context of this tense situation, after a meeting of the Security Cabinet, Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced measures to ensure the protection of German citizens in Israel, Iran and the region. Jewish General quotes Merz, who also calls on Israel and Iran to refrain from further escalating steps. He underlined Israel's right to self-defense and emphasized that Germany was ready to use diplomatic means to de-escalate.
In particular, concerns about Iran's nuclear weapons program, which is seen as a threat to the entire region, remain a central topic in political discussions. For years, the federal government has repeatedly expressed its concerns about violations of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The goal remains clear: Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
Overall, it is clear that developments in the Middle East have a significant impact on the security situation in Germany and that careful monitoring and adaptation of protective measures are urgently needed.
