Lion March in Berlin: Prince Ludwig combines donations with sport!
Berlin can look forward to a very special event next weekend. The Lion's March, a 100-kilometer race, is held in the capital and brings with it both a sporting challenge and a charitable mission. Ludwig Prinz von Bayern, the initiator of the project, launched the Lion March to raise money for the Learning Lions organization, which offers IT training for young adults in remote areas of Kenya. The [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/bayern/darum-gabe-es-den-loewenmarsch-auch-in-berlin-109763688) reports that the Berlin Lion March, with a distance of 15 kilometers instead of the full 100 kilometers, serves more as a kind of training run for the participants who will take part in the original march in Bavaria in September.
Ludwig Prince of Bavaria is enthusiastic about the Berlin route, which leads through green landscapes and past picturesque lakes. He emphasizes that the run is not only sporty, but also an opportunity for volunteers from all over the world to get involved in a good educational project.
The real background of the Lion March
The Lion March was launched in Bavaria seven years ago and has since become a real highlight. Participants from Germany and beyond can register without paying a fee. Instead, every runner should raise donations for the project. In August, the big, original Lion March is also on the program, which takes place from August 24th to 25th, with a route from Kaltenberg Castle to Hohenschwangau Castle. A “small Bavarian folk festival” is organized here for spectators, which makes the event even more inviting. Information about registration and route can be found on the official Lion March homepage, as reported by the Bayerische Staatszeitung.
Prince Ludwig founded the Learning Lions IT project five years ago, which is now having a positive impact. Young people in Kenya are learning digital skills to build a better life. The construction of a new IT school on Lake Turkana, the region where many projects are successful, is already underway. The construction is supported by successful fundraising by the Lion March. With financial support estimated at three to four million euros, this educational institution is intended to teach creative and digital skills, which is of great importance for the region. This is already evident in the initial successes: graduates of the project often quickly find jobs in graphic design and similar areas, as Deutschlandfunk Kultur reports.
Looking into the future
The prince has already initiated discussions about possible lion marches in Brussels and the USA. He dreams of expanding the ambitious project to give more young people access to education in different parts of the world. “I see the Lion March not just as a sporting event, but as a call to support young people who often have no choice,” says Ludwig Prince of Bavaria. So it remains exciting to see how this innovative concept will develop further.
While the Berlin Lion March provides excitement at the weekend, all participants can look forward to an inspiring experience that is not only enriching in terms of fitness but also personally. Together it's not just about sporting success, but also about the positive change that the participants can bring about.
