Massive S-Bahn failures in Berlin: replacement service from Wednesday morning!
On Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, Berlin commuters can expect some unpleasant surprises in S-Bahn traffic. Due to a short-term staff shortage in the signal box in Schöneweide, there will be significant disruptions on several lines. Lines S45, S46, S47, S8, S85 and S9 are affected, and the restrictions are expected to last between 8 a.m. and probably 12 p.m rbb24 reported.
The exact details show that there will be no train traffic on the S45 between Baumschulenweg and Altglienicke, while the S46 between Baumschulenweg and Grünau will also be canceled. The S8 and S85 have discontinued their connection between Ostkreuz and Grünau, and the S9 will also not run between Treptower Park and Altglienicke. To make matters worse, the S47 fails completely. This means that many passengers are dependent on alternative means of transport in order to get to their destination on time.
Replacement transport on the way
In order to cushion the consequences of the disruptions, a replacement bus service will be set up. The buses on lines S45 and S9 will run between Baumschulenweg and Altglienicke every 10 minutes. Buses are also available for the S46, S8 and S85 and run every 10 minutes between Treptower Park and Grünau. The S47 is receiving a replacement bus from Baumschulenweg to Spindlersfeld, which runs every 20 minutes.
- Haltestellen für den Ersatzverkehr sind:
- Treptower Park: Haltestelle Puschkinallee
- Baumschulenweg: Baumschulenstraße
- Schöneweide: BVG-Wendeschleife am Sterndamm
- Köpenicker Landstraße (Plänterwald)
- Schnellerstraße (Oberspree)
- Groß Berliner Damm (Johannisthal)
The S-Bahn Berlin has already apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured that information regarding the disruptions will be continually updated. T-Online also comments on the effects of the massive restrictions and emphasizes the urgency of the problem.
For all those who rely on public transport, we can only hope that the situation will be stabilized as quickly as possible and that the usual comfort will return soon. The S-Bahn's commitment to always making every effort to accommodate passengers is put to the test, especially on a day when many people go to work or to important appointments. This leaves the question: How well can local transport perform in such a situation?
