In Ellwangen, a comprehensive redesign of the Mühlgraben at the driveway to the west tangent is imminent. These measures are part of the preparations for the State Garden Show 2026, which is planned under the slogan "Ellwangen to the Jagst". In a meeting of the committee for construction, environmental and traffic matters (ABUV), Susann Howedank, head of the civil engineering office, explained the Details of the project that will significantly influence the cityscape.

The conversion of the mill grave provides for the demolition of the existing pedestrian underpass and the construction of a new bridge via the railway line. These steps are intended to help create more space at the Mühlgraben junction and at the same time increase the clarity at the point. A new barrier -free crossing area for pedestrians is installed in the area of ​​the high bridge. This ensures that pedestrians can safely reach the island parking lot, whereby the access is designed two -lane and wider.

The company Hermann Fuchs was commissioned for the construction work with an offer of almost 550,000 euros. The total costs of the project amount to just over 600,000 euros, of which 647,100 euros are covered by available budget funds. The construction work is scheduled for the period from September 1 to November 28, 2025, and the Mühlgraben remains accessible from Schrezheim and Siemensstrasse.

The current redesign of the mill grave is only part of the larger vision for the state garden show. The planned event aims to better combine the city's urban uses with the adjacent free nature. The aim is to loosen up the currently straightened state of the river and achieve a natural redesign.
