Rave in Berlin: 13 seriously injured and millions of drug alerts!
Last weekend the techno parade “Rave the Planet” took place in Berlin, which attracted a real rush of visitors with around 200,000 people celebrating. This colorful event, organized by Loveparade founder Dr. Motte was organized to stand up for peace, love and the protection of electronic dance music culture. The police counted around 100,000 participants at the event and rated the event as “low-disturbance and peaceful”. Nevertheless, there were serious incidents that marred the celebratory mood, as Welt reported.
A total of 69 visitors had to be taken to hospital due to serious health problems. Of particular concern are the 13 people who were admitted with life-threatening injuries. According to the Berlin fire department, the main cause of the injuries was intoxication, although the exact types of drugs remained unclear. Information about the health status of these people has not been released, but such a condition is considered life-threatening if ventilation is required.
Incident and causes
The fire and police forces were on site with 1,000 officers and 600 security forces. They had to perform a total of 392 missions, many of which were due to alcohol and drug consumption - resulting in seizures, vomiting and even loss of consciousness. Compared to the previous year, when the number of participants was up to 300,000 and there were a large number of serious injuries, this time the organizers were unable to report any significant increase in falls or violence.
Nevertheless, there were some problem cases: The police had to carry out 54 short-term arrests to establish personal details and recorded a total of 45 crimes, including 7 dangerous bodily harm and 3 sexual offenses. Six police officers were injured during operations - an intolerable situation that highlights the challenges of such a large event.
Drug use at festivals
The use of drugs, particularly party drugs such as Ecstasy, is a known risk at festivals. A study has shown that toxic impurities in drugs are a serious problem: Buyers on the black market often do not know exactly what dosages of active ingredients they contain. Sometimes even small amounts can lead to an overdose, highlighting the dangers of drug use at such events. This phenomenon does not stop at the popular ecstasy pills, in which other substances such as methamphetamine or ketamine are often detected, which can cause far more dangerous side effects, as the AOK explains.
Common sense should also be the focus of a celebration. It remains to be hoped that future events like “Rave the Planet” will be safer and enable all visitors to have a carefree celebration. Ultimately, it's all about the shared experience of music and community without endangering your health.
