Reinickendorf celebrates 60 years of urban friends with Antony!

A lot is happening in Reinickendorf - and it is not just about the upcoming celebrations for the city lovers with Antony. On June 26, 2025, a delegation from the French partner city was a guest to prepare the 60th anniversary of this connection next year. Mayor Jean-Yves Sénant and his nine-member group received many activities by the district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner and the head of the district prescribed, Kerstin Köppen, and set up many activities during their visit, such as a musical appearance of the Franco-German music school.

The enthusiasm for the exchange was not only shown in the official discussions that were about sport, education and culture, but also when visiting various facilities. The Highlights included the Salvator primary school and the Tegel Fire Brigade Museum. The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the “Sous Les Ponts” senior club and to linger in the “Fuchsbau” youth hostel, where the close cooperation between the two cities was focused on.

an important topic: loneliness

Another central aspect of the visit was the topic of loneliness that the delegation from Antony was particularly interested in. In Reinickendorf, those responsible can refer to new initiatives that aim to effectively combat loneliness. The recent loneliness officer Annabell Paris has big plans. Together with the district mayor, the strategy was presented in a press conference in February to offer more help to affected people in their place of residence. By evaluating local data, social offers should be conveyed precisely.

An annual loneliness summit in December is the highlight of this initiative. In order to better involve health care in the social efforts, the Medical Association for the State of Berlin is also involved in the measures, which Mayor Demirbüken-Wegner considers a significant step. For example, medical practices should serve as a contact point for those affected to issue recipes for social participation that go beyond medical services

design of the social infrastructure

loneliness is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by various individual, interpersonal and social factors. According to the Federal Center for Political Education, it is a widespread feeling that can occur in all phases of life and is not necessarily equivalent to being the physical alone. The current urban development in Reinickendorf offers a platform to combat loneliness through better -designed public spaces and low -threshold meeting places.

There is hope: the creation of communal locations and the improvement of the social infrastructure is funded by the federal government. The determination that quarters act as social spaces that create beneficial networks confirms the guiding principle that the design of public spaces is crucial for social interactions

With the upcoming celebrations and the committed work against loneliness, Reinickendorf makes it clear that not only friendships are being maintained across borders, but also the social contacts within the communities should be strengthened.
