S-Bahn construction work: traffic bractions in Schönewide to Grünau!

In Berlin, passengers will face some challenges in the next two weeks. The S-Bahn Berlin recently announced that traffic is restricted on five lines due to extensive construction work. In the period from Friday, July 4, from 9:45 p.m. to Monday, July 7th, at 1:30 a.m. there will be a complete interruption of train traffic between the S-Bahn stations Schönewide and Grünau. The reason for the construction work: A new electronic signal box is installed, which requires some adjustments in the infrastructure. According to berlin-live.de, the work is necessary to modernize the signal technology.

The affected lines are the S45, S46, S8, S85 and S9. In order to mitigate the effects for passengers, replacement traffic on buses was set up. The buses of the S46 line run between Schöneweide and Grünau and stop at the Sterndamm stations, Wagner-Régeny-Allee, Rudower Chaussee and Richterstrasse. Similar stops apply to the S9, with additional stops on Ewaldstrasse and Altglienicke. It is recommended to find out more about the routes in the S-Bahn app or on the notices at the train stations.

replacement traffic and ticket purchase

An important note for everyone who wants to use the replacement buses: Passengers have to buy their tickets before starting driving, because no driving tickets are sold on the bus itself. This ensures a smooth process, but also means that travelers should take care of their tickets in good time, to avoid unnecessary waiting times.

But these are not the only restrictions that will come to the S-Bahn users in the coming weeks. There are also construction sites and changes in the timetable on other lines, as on the route between Teltow Stadt and Lankwitz, which will be interrupted from July 4th to 7th and then again from July 11th to 14th. Replacement buses also run here, which makes the changes more complicated for travelers. The nightly restriction between the Nordbahnhof and Waidmannslust on 7./8. July is an example of the extensive construction work, as reported.

more construction sites and longer work

The work on Berlin's S-Bahn network does not end. Since April 11, 2023, work has been done on the tracks between Ostbahnhof and Alexanderplatz. Originally, the work should be completed on April 22, but they were extended to April 24th due to reordered materials. The lines S3, S5, S7 and S9 are affected here, which are warmly asked to consider alternative transport options. During the construction work, regional trains and the U5 subway line can offer a bypass of the blocked routes, which at least makes the Situation easier, as the Berliner Kurier indicates.

The travelers Berliner and their guests must therefore focus on some patience and good planning in order to get safely and conveniently from A to B despite all the measures. With the numerous alternatives, however, it is likely to successfully maintain Berlin local transport during these conversion measures.
