Summer holidays start: 3.7 million travelers are expecting at BER!

Summer has finally arrived in Berlin and Brandenburg! Today, July 24, 2025, the big holiday fun begins for many: the summer holidays begin, and with them a proper travel tour. At Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), around 3.7 million travelers are expected to use the departure terminals during this holiday season. That's around 100,000 more passengers than last year Daily Mirror reported.

The first days of the holiday are peppered with a rush of around 390,000 passengers, who are expected between July 23rd and 27th. The operators estimate that next Friday in particular will be the busiest day of the week with around 85,000 passengers. Also Time emphasizes that the main wave of travelers is expected to come primarily from the northern and northeastern federal states, which will set off early on July 26th.

Preparations at BER

The airport company has put a lot of things in place to ensure that the rush runs smoothly. A total of 20 security lanes in both terminals have been upgraded with new CT security scanners, making it easier for passengers to get their luggage through security more quickly—no need to unpack electronic devices and liquids. In addition, travelers can book a time slot for their security check online, which can significantly reduce waiting times. RBB reports that the operators are relying on relief teams and have introduced facial recognition at check-in.

But there is not only positive news. Drivers in the region have to expect longer travel times and gridlocked traffic on the highways. The main travel wave is expected for the weekend, when many people take to the streets to escape to the Baltic Sea or other holiday regions. However, there is a sense of optimism: the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association has significantly increased its services towards the Baltic Sea, with additional trains on the RE3 line between Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and Pasewalk, which will run from September 7th.

S-Bahn passengers be careful

S-Bahn users will also have to reschedule in the coming weeks: Due to construction work, train traffic between Friedrichshagen and Wuhlheide will be completely stopped until August 5th. A replacement bus service has been set up. From September 6th there will also be reduced frequency between Erkner and the city center.

With the current travel preparations and the start of the holiday season, we can only hope that travelers have a lot of fun on their journeys and can enjoy their summer holidays without any worries. Pack your bags and head to the sun! An exciting summer lies ahead of us.
