RE7 railway line in Potsdam-Mittelmark: track renewal brings chaos!
From Friday evening, July 4th, 2025 at 9:30 p.m., a comprehensive construction project will begin at Seddiner Bahnhof in Brandenburg, which will significantly affect rail travelers on the RE7 route between Dessau and Berlin Ostkreuz. As the daily news reports, travelers have to be prepared for longer travel times, closures and replacement bus services. The tracks at Seddin station need to be completely replaced, resulting in a complete closure of both the tracks and the station.
Several important train stations are affected by the construction work: Beelitz-Heilstätten, Seddin, Michendorf, Wilhelmshorst and Potsdam-Rehbrücke. On the RE7, trains will temporarily only run between Dessau and Borkheide and between the media city of Babelsberg and Berlin Ostkreuz. The bus service set up for replacement travelers will run once an hour between Griebnitzsee and Borkheide and will take around an hour.
Construction time and diversions
Construction work is expected to last until August 22, 2025. Afterwards, at least one track should be reopened. However, it remains to be seen whether the RE7 trains will be able to run through again after the reopening, as information about the single-track closure still needs to be processed by September 19th. A spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn confirmed the details of the construction site and the associated restrictions for travelers.
The city of Beelitz is already reporting concerns about replacement traffic, as the existing buses across the region are already heavily utilized. The Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) has offered to examine the funding, but cannot offer any solutions before the closure begins. The RBB24 points out that all construction work is expected to be completed in September, which will greatly affect the mobility of citizens in the region.
It remains to be hoped that clear information and smooth replacement traffic will help travelers get through this construction phase. Until the work is finally completed in September 2025, all affected commuters should be patient and regularly inform themselves about the current timetables.
