Education debate in the Barnim: FDP demands investments and solutions!
Barnim, Deutschland - On July 18, 2025, the FDP Barnim was hosting a summer reception in Brandenburg together with the FDP Uckermark, which under the motto "Select education, shape the future. Education needs clever minds - not cuts." took place. Around 50 guests came up with the weather when the weather was nice to exchange ideas about the current challenges of educational policy in a relaxed atmosphere. The event, which was opened by Martin Hoeck and Ivo Smolak, not only offered a buffet and musical interludes of the saxophone guitar duo Willy & Walter, but also a panel discussion as a highlight of the content.
The focus of the discussion was essential issues such as the lack of teachers, inclusion and the announced cuts in the state budget. Discussions included Ulrike Mauersberger (CDU), Kurt Fischer (SPD) and Zyon Braun (FDP), while Wenke Surauf and Thomas Pfeffer took over the moderation. There was agreement among the participants that investments in education are urgently necessary to enable an appropriate implementation of the educational claims. The FDP Barnim district association was concluded that an open, solution -oriented educational debate is required. In addition, there was sufficient opportunity for personal discussions and exchange between citizens, party members and other interested parties.
Current challenges in the education system
The educational situation in Brandenburg remains tense. As current information from the RBB show, around 152,000 lessons have failed without replacement in the first half of the current school year, which corresponds to 2.23 percent of the planned lesson. This is 18,000 hours less than in the previous year, where the failure was 2.5 percent. However, the loss of lessons is still above the pre-Corona level of 1.8 percent in the first half of 2019/2020. The Ministry of Education in Potsdam tries to defuse the situation, but admits that the teaching quality can not be guaranteed at all schools.
Especially long -term diseases and the increased need for representation at individual schools ensure difficulties. The Ministry of Education stated that despite a decline in the hours that are taught by regular teachers, around 929,200 hours due to a lack of teachers could be omitted in the current school year. At least 774,300 hours of this were covered by representative, but these are often career changers without comparable pedagogical training. This leads to consideration from the student body. The State Student Council comments on the fact that the planned cuts not only unsettle the teachers, but also put a solid teaching in danger.
Future of Education in Brandenburg
Brandenburg's education policy therefore faces major challenges. The planned reduction in the number of teachers from around 20,800 to 20,542 in the school year 2025/2026 further exacerbates the situation. A short -term stopover stopped after criticism, but it remains to be seen how the state government can meet the lack of trained educators in the long term. In the context of this discussion, it is essential to hear the voices of those who are directly affected - pupils demand more transparency and funding, while they draw attention to the conditions of their schools. After all, education should not only remain a keyword, but should be lived in practice.
