The federal government is supporting Barnim with 1.5 million euros for cultural projects!
A significant step towards promoting regional culture and citizen participation is now being taken in the Barnim district. The federal government has decided to support this district with 1.5 million euros as part of the “Aller.Land” program until 2030. This is part of a comprehensive initiative aimed at strengthening culture, participation and democracy projects in the region. As the Barnim Current reports, the selection of the funded projects was made by four independent juries with a total of 26 experts from the fields of cultural work and democracy development.
A total of 30 projects from 97 regions were selected, with central criteria such as the participation of local people as well as regional anchoring and networking being crucial. The SPD member of the Bundestag Stefan Zierke was pleased with this positive development and confirmed that the Barnim district council had almost unanimously approved the application for the federal program at the end of 2024, even if there were some voices from the CDU, the Free Voters and the AfD against the funding.
Creative projects for all citizens
The “Aller.Land” program aims to promote democratic and cultural participation at the local level. The funded projects are primarily aimed at involving a wide variety of groups. These range from young people to older citizens, newcomers and people with disabilities, according to the program's website All country can be read.
Diverse, community-building projects are planned that respond to current local challenges and have a regional focus. These include, for example, art and village residencies that promote collaboration between artists and villagers, as well as opening up museums and theaters for creative processes. Another important aspect is the creation of open spaces that are designed and organized by young people.
Additional funding opportunities at a glance
Parallel to this program, there are also other funding initiatives that should be considered in the same breath. The Federal Cultural Foundation has launched the “LOKAL – Program for Culture and Engagement” program, which is planned to run until 2024 and is intended to build long-term networks in cities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants. Up to 240,000 euros per project are available over a period of four years. Rarely have we seen so many opportunities to promote cultural exchange and strengthen the commitment of local people. Information about application deadlines and advice is available on the website Federal Cultural Foundation available.
Overall, the “Aller.Land” program is a ray of hope for everyone who lives in Barnim and beyond and wants to get involved culturally. The funds provided not only initiate projects that promote dialogue and cooperation, but also create long-term structures that meaningfully pave the way to a more active and participatory future. It remains exciting to see what will develop on this cultural landscape in the coming years.
