On July 19, 2025, a new chapter in the festival's history was written: The “Island Lights 2025” took place for the first time at the picturesque Börnicke estate near Bernau. Around 2,000 music enthusiasts flocked to the opening ceremony and created an impressive atmosphere under a sky full of lights and emotions. The event brought together artists such as Alexander Scheer, Andreas Dresen and the band The Gardener & The Tree on stage, who captivated the audience with their performances. The opening offered a colorful mix of music and artistic performances, supported by mimes and acrobats, who gave the audience unforgettable moments. Rita and Detlef, who celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary, were also there and enthusiastically praised the new location. Although the atmosphere and lights captivated many visitors, there were some who missed retreats and boat rides. These have been a highlight of the festival in the past, the 20th edition of which in summer 2024 caused a lot of excitement as it was the last event at the previous location. Berlin.de adds that The new format now offers two evenings with a colorful program in which music, light, fire and magical creatures are in the foreground.
Musical highlights and new talents
From the loading area of the horse stable to the romantic castle park – the opening night promised entertainment for every taste. The musical opening was performed by the band Me & Ms Jacobs, followed by the emotions and awe that Alexander Scheer and Andreas Dresen sparked with their songs by Gerhard Gundermann. The band The Gardener & The Tree then ended the evening with haunting indie folk and put the audience in an emotional mood.
A special guest of the evening was Milow, who thrilled the audience with his hits such as “You Don’t Know” and “Howling At The Moon”. His appearance was the start of a new live tour, which coincides with his new single “Crazy For You” and the upcoming album “Boy Made Out Of Stars” in February 2025.
