Cellar fire and car thefts: Chaos in Barnim on November 9th!
What is happening in the region? On November 9, 2025, there was a brazen theft from a snack machine in Wandlitz. Early in the morning, residents were woken up by a loud noise. Four masked people tampered with the machine and were able to escape with a crowbar. The investigators later found the crowbar near a Mercedes Citan, which was left with the engine running in a parking lot at the Wandlitzsee lido. The police discovered that this Mercedes had already been reported stolen in Bernau on November 28, 2025. Signs of break-in at the ATM and a nearby restaurant indicate an organized theft, and the criminal police are now investigating possible accomplices. During the short-range search, two mopeds with two people each were spotted. One of the drivers, a 16-year-old German teenager without a driver's license, was caught; the moped was also stolen.
When we talk about criminal activity, we cannot ignore incidents in traffic. On the same day, a serious traffic accident occurred at the Barnim motorway triangle. A 50-year-old man lost control of his Chevrolet and left the road. The material damage is estimated at around 15,000 euros. The alcohol test showed a level of 1.15 per mille, which led to the immediate revocation of the driver's license. The criminal police have now taken over the case and are investigating the exact circumstances. Traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol in Germany are not only a question of safety, but can also have serious civil consequences. Claims for damages from the injured party and possible criminal prosecution are just some of the possible consequences that the responsible driver can expect in this case. Especially if you exceed the 1.1 per mille limit, you are driving into a legal gray area in which concrete penalties, driving license revocation and civil lawsuits can be threatened, as [RA Kotz](https://www.ra-kotz.de/verkehrsunfall-unter-lokal-oder-drogeneinfluss-laufen-fuer- Schadenssatz-und-strafrecht.htm) explains in detail.
More incidents in the region
However, the night brought more unpleasant news. On the evening of November 9th, a car caught fire in Biesenthal for reasons that are still unclear. The VW, which caused more than 5,000 euros in property damage, is also currently being investigated by the criminal police. There was also a fire in a garage and a single-family home in Joachimsthal on November 8th, which caused an estimated property damage of 70,000 euros. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the house is temporarily uninhabitable.
Another incident that caused a stir in the region was the knife attack that led to the temporary arrest of a 29-year-old man. He is suspected of having seriously injured his partner. Here, too, high alcohol levels were involved: both those involved had levels of 1.46 and 1.68 per mille. The case is under the strict eye of the criminal police, who are investigating all the circumstances.
The last few days have shown us once again how important it is to act responsibly in everyday life - not just in traffic. It remains to be hoped that such incidents can be prevented in the future.
