New board of the Barnim Local Action Group: Fresh money for ideas!
The Barnim Local Action Group (LAG) elected a new board on September 30th, which is made up of a colorful mix of committed people from different areas. Mandy Jung, Dr. Ronald Schulz, Birk Polten, Burkhard Horn, Frank Heinze, Petra Bierwirth, Hans-Joachim Blomenkamp, Bernd C. Skudelny and Nicole Schwarz form the new team. These personalities bring concentrated knowledge and creativity to advance the rural area of Barnim. Barnim.de reports that their goal is to make the region a livable home for all generations and to develop economic pillars.
A forward-looking budget of 1.1 million euros in LEADER funding is available to support projects in the region. These funds are intended to support the development of social, economic and cultural initiatives. The board will review and approve the submitted projects by November 30, 2025. There is transparency: the selection is based on the goals of the regional development strategy, which ranges from strengthening voluntary work to maintaining an attractive cultural landscape.
Funding opportunities for small projects
The LAG has also set up a regional budget for small projects, which is financed by the state of Brandenburg and the EU. Clubs and associations can apply for financial support for projects between 2,000 and 20,000 euros. Barnim Current highlights that no contributions are required and the deadline for submitting ideas is October 31st.
It is particularly important to promote community involvement. For example, projects such as the equipment of the Schildipark Panketal e.V. support association and the sustainable thermal insulation of the children's and youth workshop are supported. Interested parties should not hesitate to submit their application in good time, as the projects must be implemented by September 2026.
LEADER as a strategic approach
The LEADER approach, which forms the basis for these funding measures, is a strategic concept to strengthen rural areas and improve living conditions. Like on the side of Brandenburg Ministry of Agriculture and Environment explains, this bottom-up approach enables people to actively shape their environment. By involving local actors, not only the needs of the communities are taken into account, but also economic, social and cultural potential is mobilized.
The initiative covers around 27,870 square kilometers of Brandenburg and involves around 1.4 million people. The aim is to create equal living conditions and develop sustainable development strategies for rural regions. In the current period, 39 projects with financial resources amounting to around 10 million euros have already been approved - a success record that is impressive.
All in all, the focus is clearly on a vibrant, connected and sustainable future for Barnim. The LAG invites everyone interested to actively participate in the development of their region and to contribute creative ideas.
