Beethovenstrasse: Fix deficiencies and guarantee safety for students!
The city of Brandenburg began renewing the sidewalk on Beethovenstrasse on November 10th. This measure affects the section between Berner Straße and Johann-Strauß-Straße, directly on the side of the Wilhelm-Busch-Schule. Mayor Steffen Scheller underlines the importance of this work, which is specifically aimed at improving road safety for both residents and school children. This initiative is no coincidence, considering that school and daycare routes must remain safe to use throughout the entire construction period. Access to adjacent properties and facilities will also be guaranteed, which is good news for those affected. As stadt-brandenburg.de reports, the construction work is expected to be completed by February 2026.
But this is not the only construction site in the region. In Frankfurt, too, a section of Beethovenstrasse was extensively renovated. The work, which is being carried out by the Department of Highways and Development (ASE), began on June 3 and was expected to be completed by July 5. The main focus here was on removing all damaged areas and thus minimizing dangerous situations. In total, the city of Frankfurt is investing around 165,000 euros in this project, which will be carried out in two stages to ensure accessibility in at least one direction. As frankfurt-live.com explains in detail, the project starts with the removal of the road surface.
Traffic safety obligation in focus
The issues of traffic safety obligations are of central importance in these construction projects. Especially after an accident on a sidewalk in Lübeck, where a plaintiff claimed damages due to a fall, it becomes clear how important safe sidewalks are. The incident, in which the plaintiff tripped over a protruding sidewalk slab, resulted in a legal dispute that ended in the Lübeck Regional Court. It was determined here that although there is a traffic safety obligation, a residual risk from minor bumps is accepted, as anwaltspraxis-magazin.de confirms. Differences in height of up to 2.5 cm were not considered to be contrary to duty, which shows how great the scope for action is for cities and municipalities.
The two cities of Brandenburg and Frankfurt are therefore not only faced with the challenge of eliminating dangerous areas, but also of taking legal and safety aspects into account when renovating their sidewalks. It will be exciting to see how traffic safety develops in the affected areas during and after the construction work.
