Level crossing in Brandenburg: Opening in December uncertain!

The level crossing at the new plane crossing in Brandenburg an der Havel is a hot topic. How maz-online.de reported, the passage will likely remain closed until December as important inspections and approvals are still pending. After the construction work was completed on September 26th, the level crossing is still awaiting final acceptance by a test engineer from DB Infra Go.

On November 7th, the documents for the crossing were updated by Deutsche Bahn AG. These now need to be confirmed by a plan examiner, which could take one to two weeks. But that's not all: the Federal Railway Authority (EBA) also has to clarify whether the level crossing, which dates back to GDR times, is protected. A preservation order could enable the operation of the crossing, which is no longer allowed to be built in its current form.

Traffic and frustration

The situation is frustrating for many residents and road users. The crossing has been closed since July 24 and the detour often passes through residential areas, causing increased traffic and congestion. Mayor Steffen Scheller (CDU) has made it clear that they want to avoid a partial release of the transition in order to avoid delays and clarify the situation.

The desired technical checks also include the location of concrete slabs and cable ducts. Even small changes such as moving a St. Andrew's cross are scrutinized closely. This is the only way to ensure safety for road users.

The future of the transport infrastructure in Brandenburg

The construction work on this project will last until December 2026, with a full closure of the L 23 also planned from the end of July 2026. The entire project has an investment sum of 11.3 million euros, with the federal government, the state of Brandenburg and Deutsche Bahn sharing the costs equally.

Developments in the region's transport system are therefore under high pressure, both in terms of ongoing construction projects and in relation to the reopening of the level crossing at the new Plane crossing. Let's stay tuned to see when relief will come for residents!
