On the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, there was a serious accident on State Road 222, between Gransee and Großwoltersdorf in the Oberhavel district, in which six firefighters were injured. The incident occurred shortly after midnight when a tanker was returning from a mission. While attempting to avoid an oncoming car, the exterior mirrors of both vehicles touched, causing the fire engine to veer off the road and eventually overturn.
All six firefighters who were in the fire engine sustained injuries and had to be taken to hospital immediately. Fortunately, the driver of the other car was uninjured. The local Menz fire department happened to be traveling behind the accident vehicle and immediately secured and illuminated the scene of the accident. Ladders had to be used to free the emergency services because the vehicle was on its side.
