economic background
The company is part of the black group, which also includes Lidl. In the past financial year 2024/25, the two brands together reached around 14,200 shops in 32 countries. The group invested a total of 8.6 billion euros, of which 3.3 billion euros focused on Germany to further expand warehouses and branches. The plans are not only mostly positive, but also bring challenges that are created, for example, by uncomfortable competitive relationships. The Bundeskartellamt therefore has an eye on the new takeovers according to BNN .
At the same time, the ver.di union emphasized the importance of securing the jobs by taking over. In 2020, an agreement with Kaufland was made to ensure first-class working conditions for the employed employees of the closed real markets. This commitment is also evident in the creation of around 20,000 new jobs, of which 4,000 are in Germany.
, however, there were recently some negative headlines in several branches due to hygiene defects. Kaufland reacted to this by making temporary closures and adding external experts to secure the quality standards.
The direction of view is clearly on the expansion and innovative strength, and when we can welcome the next new Kaufland branches, remains exciting until the opening.
