Courses for seniors: How to stay fit and fall-free as you get older!

There is now a new course in Cologne that is specifically designed for older people to promote their health and fitness. Under the motto “Step Safely into the Future,” a program is offered for people between the ages of 65 and 90 that focuses on strengthening mobility, strength and balance. The experienced René Stieger is responsible for management. The course starts on July 21st with an information event and participation is free for those interested. The course units, which take place over a period of nine weeks, last around 60 minutes each.

Health comes first, especially in old age. Regular exercise is crucial, not only to maintain physical fitness, but also to prevent falls, which can have serious consequences as we age. Gesundheit.gv.at explains that movement skills such as endurance, strength and dexterity can also be trained in old age. An active 70-year-old may have more energy than an untrained 30-year-old! This shows that it is never too late to do something for your own fitness.

Why fall prevention is important

The consequences of falls can be serious, including femoral neck fractures and long rehabilitation times. [gesund-aktiv-aelter- Werden.de](https://www.gesund-aktiv-aelter- Werden.de/movement/rutschpraevention/) emphasizes that anxious older people tend to move less after a fall. This often leads to a vicious circle: less exercise causes muscle loss, which in turn increases the risk of falls. To counteract this, exercise programs that are specifically tailored to the needs of older people are essential. This is where the new course comes in: physical fitness is promoted through targeted exercises, which significantly supports independence in old age.

The information event will take place on Monday, July 21st, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Aktiv-Treff, Max-Herm-Straße 67. Anyone interested does not need to have any previous knowledge and registration is possible either by calling René Stieger on 0173 6137584 or directly on site. Growing old can be a pleasure if you stay active and train your mobility. The “Step Safely into the Future” course offers an excellent opportunity to take the first step into a fitter, self-determined life. Every step counts, be part of it!
