New Škoda trams are now running in Brandenburg – a celebration for everyone!

On November 1, 2025, a significant step in the further development of local public transport was taken in Brandenburg. On this special Saturday, the new Škoda trams received approval for passenger registration from the state ministry after intensive testing. City of Brandenburg reports that a total of 244 reports and technical documents had to be created for this approval process.

The commissioning took place at a festive event at the health center at the main train station, at which Mayor Steffen Scheller and the managing director of the Brandenburg Transport Company (VBBr), Jörg Vogler, were present. Four of a total of eight Škoda trams ordered were put into operation there. What was particularly pleasing for the guests was that the new train line now goes directly to the tram stop opposite the main train station.

Celebrations and Attractions

The ceremony included not only an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, but also free tours for all visitors. Pancakes, VBBr rubber toys and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks ensured a cheerful atmosphere.

In the mayor's speech, the importance of investing in local public transport, which has a long tradition dating back to 1897, was particularly emphasized. This not only improves mobility in the city, but also invests in the future of local transport. This is particularly beneficial for the many passengers who rely on safe and modern transport.

Safety and training

To ensure safety and smooth processes, VBBr managing director Jörg Vogler announced that both the driving staff and the workshop teams will be trained. This is particularly necessary as city streets are often narrow and curves, such as those at the corner of Ritterstrasse and Plauer Strasse, require special attention.

The new Škoda trams not only offer an environmentally friendly alternative for daily journeys, but are also a sign of the ongoing modernization of public transport in Brandenburg. Long-term investments are intended to ensure that the infrastructure continues to meet growing requirements.

Overall, the commissioning of these trams is further proof that Brandenburg has a good hand when it comes to the further development of local transport and that the city continues to offer an absorbing environment for its citizens.
