Cycle paths on the B102 in Havelland: renovation starts - be careful on the road!

A lot is happening in North Rhine-Westphalia - especially in road construction. The Brandenburg State Road Administration has now begun the comprehensive renovation of cycle paths along the busy federal highway B102. This measure primarily affects the Havelland and Brandenburg an der Havel area Rathenow24 reported. Around 70 damaged areas are to be repaired on various sections in the coming weeks, and drivers and cyclists should be prepared for some restrictions.

The affected sections of the B102 include, among others, the routes from Golzow to Ragösen, Hohenstücken to Fohrde and Pritzerbe to Premnitz. But this isn't the only place where work is being done. Work will also be done on the B1 between Painke and Jeserig until June 19, 2025, as well as other routes such as the B1 Plauer Landstrasse in Brandenburg an der Havel. As a rule, the base layer, binder course and top layer are renewed. Finally, the plan is to complete the measure by the end of July.

Traffic regulations and diversions

Important for all cyclists: They must be redirected onto the road during the work. Motorists should expect speed limits of 50km/h on affected sections. These measures are part of the country's ongoing investments in transport infrastructure. The federal highway B102 has also received further improvements since 2022 to increase mobility. A comprehensive construction project, for example in the section between the Silokanal and the B1, required a total investment of 12 million euros.

This construction measure not only includes the expansion of the B102 to four lanes, but also the improvement of pedestrian and cycle paths, the construction of barrier-free bus stops and new lighting. In addition, important crossing aids for pedestrians will be created. The original completion date was scheduled for May 2023, but there were delays due to staff absences and delivery difficulties.

Extensive measures for road safety

But the B102 is not the only project that is being tackled as part of the road safety measures in Brandenburg. Loud a current press release In the state of Brandenburg, around 447 million euros were invested in the maintenance and expansion of roads, bridges and cycle paths in 2023 alone. For 2024, around 422 million euros are available for planning, investing and operating roads.

These investments are not only important for mobility, but also for nature conservation. Brandenburg attaches great importance to taking environmental protection and landscape conservation into account when planning its road construction projects. When unavoidable interventions in nature occur, compensatory and replacement measures are planned to promote biodiversity and insect protection.

The expansion and renewal of cycle paths on federal and state roads will remain a central topic for the next few years in order to meet the needs of road users. 27 projects are being supported in this regard with around 20 million euros for the maintenance and construction of cycle paths.

Overall, the signs in Brandenburg continue to point to progress: new projects are intended to help improve the traffic situation and increase the accessibility of cities and communities. We'll stay on the ball for you!
