Students tackle: fence protects Krugpark from risk of falling!
In the idyllic Krugpark in Cologne, there was recently something going on that was amazed even the oldest trees. Pupils from the Bertolt Brecht-Gymnasium actively helped and provided more security in their city forest. A stable fence was built over two days, which specially secured the steep embankment edges on the engagement pond, and thus increased safety for all forest visitors.
Interest in nature conservation and practical craft were the focus of this project. The students dug the holes for the fence posts at least half a meter deep - a challenge because the forest floor was firm and rooted. But with the support of urban forest workers who gave helpful tips, the undertaking went quickly. Particularly noteworthy: the wood was already running out on the first day! Don't worry, the forest workers had quickly organized supplies so that the fence could be completed on the second day.
an important protection for nature
The new fence not only offers protection for forest visitors, but also makes a contribution to forestry. As Wald-Prinz , the installation of a wild fence is necessary to preserve young forest cultures from game damage. Solid protection is essential, especially in the event of a high number of game, such as deer, red and wild boar. The pupils built a wild fence that offers protection against purgatory damage and wild bite. Thanks to various fence types and simple construction methods such as knot mesh, such a fence can also be installed inexpensively by laypersons.
There are many ways to construct a wild fence, from wooden or metal piles up to special knot braids that are simple and cost-effective. Such protective measures are useful for individual areas, while for larger areas as with the Christmas tree cultures, a well -thought -out wild protection fence is advisable. Young forest cultures usually urgently need this protection, since individual protection measures are usually not economical.
Together for a better future
The students not only showed manual skills, but also commitment to their environment, and this is rewarded with a special memory: each participant received a city forest cup as a memory of this valuable project. Such initiatives are important for the awareness of young people about nature conservation and the responsibility they carry for their environment.
In times when environmentally conscious action should be in the foreground more than ever, it is great to see that today's youth actively shape and take on responsibility. As Meetingpoint Brandenburg , the Bertolt-Brecht-Gymnasium has already carried out numerous projects in the city forest in the past. It remains to be hoped that many other schools join this example and actively contribute to nature and environmental education.
