Brandenburg benefits: 3 billion for infrastructure modernization!

Today, July 11, 2025, there are exciting times ahead for the federal states and municipalities. The federal government has made available the impressive sum of 100 billion euros from a new special fund of 500 billion euros to finance urgently needed infrastructure projects. This was reported by rbb24. The funds are intended to help modernize public infrastructure and achieve climate neutrality by 2045, after significant deficiencies such as broken roads and dilapidated bridges were identified in recent years.

However, distributing these funds is not easy: around three billion euros will flow into Brandenburg over a period of twelve years, which corresponds to around 250 million euros per year. This year, Brandenburg's infrastructure budget can look forward to a volume of around 1.6 billion euros. The mayor of Bernau, André Stahl, is already bringing possible projects into play: from a new central fire station to a new building for after-school care. Nevertheless, he remains cautious and warns that expectations of the special fund should remain realistic.

Use of funds and areas of investment

Infrastructure Minister Detlef Tabbert sees rail infrastructure as a priority, while Health Minister Britta Müller is calling for funds for heat protection in care facilities. Negotiations on the distribution of funds between the state and municipalities are ongoing and various models are being considered, including a 50:50 or 60:40 split in favor of the municipalities. In addition, SPD parliamentary group leader Björn Lüttmann hopes that the funds will be used as start-up financing for various projects.

The special fund is divided into three main pillars: 100 billion euros for states and municipalities, 100 billion euros for the climate and transformation fund and 300 billion euros planned for additional federal investments. The federal government is already planning almost 19 billion euros from the federal share of the special fund for 2025, which, in combination with funds for the climate and transformation fund and investments from the states and municipalities, amounts to a total of around 37 billion euros To raise investment levels and strengthen Germany's competitiveness.

Investments in the future

But it's not just Brandenburg that should benefit. A total of 9 billion euros have already been earmarked for rail transport this year, and 6.5 billion euros will be used to improve child day care and digital education. The plans look into the future: at least 4 billion euros should be available annually for digitalization and areas such as research and climate protection are also in focus. The DIHK emphasizes that public investments must meet certain requirements in order to actually promote economic growth and competitiveness.

The debate about the use of the funds remains lively. While CDU representatives warn that the money should only be used for income-generating measures, the AfD has so far remained silent about its position. André Stahl makes it clear that the budget should not be misused to plug budget holes. Finally, it is important to keep a close eye on the control mechanisms after four and eight years to ensure the success of the investments.

In the end, we can only hope that the investment boost that all parties want actually occurs and that this opportunity is not wasted. The course has been set, now it's important to use it with a good hand.
