Cannabis clubs in Brandenburg: 16 permits and a new era!
A lot has happened in Germany since cannabis clubs were approved over a year ago. Brandenburg in particular has 16 approved clubs, which is the highest number in East Germany star reported. These clubs allow their members to grow and consume cannabis for personal use, which is a significant step in the country's cannabis policy.
There are currently 12 applications being processed, while 2 applications have been rejected. So far, only 7 permits have been issued in the capital Berlin, and 14 in Saxony-Anhalt. For comparison: In North Rhine-Westphalia, the number of permits is at the top with 83, followed by Lower Saxony with 55.
Approval and cultivation
From April 1, 2024, the new Consumer Cannabis Act (KCanG) will come into force, which regulates the non-commercial cultivation of cannabis for registered associations and cooperatives. As on the website of LAVG Brandenburg As explained, these growing associations can have up to 500 members and must adhere to strict government regulations. The board of each growing association appoints a prevention officer who is responsible for addiction prevention measures. This shows that health protection is particularly important here.
Applications must be submitted in writing or electronically and a fee is payable. The authority will decide on approval within three months of receipt of the complete application documents. It is about the growing associations also taking responsibility for the protection of young people and health.
Social acceptance and use
Cannabis consumption in Germany is now widespread. Nearly 40 percent of adults ages 18 to 59 have used cannabis at least once, according to studies conducted by the Federal Drug Commissioner were published. Given these numbers, it is hardly surprising that the legalization of cannabis is being hotly debated politically.
Although the legalization of cannabis is still controversial, the Union and the SPD have agreed to carry out an “open-ended evaluation” in the fall. This is intended to clarify what effects legalization has on society. The trend towards decriminalization and the possibility of controlled cultivation support the supposed acceptance of consumption.
The new regulations and approvals are part of a broader strategy to combat abuse and promote responsible consumption. While cases of addiction and abusive consumption still need to be treated, the hope remains that the new structures in Brandenburg and other federal states can have a positive effect.
