Angela Boll, new editor-in-chief in Cottbus: This is what she brings with her!

On July 1, 2025, Angela Boll took over the management of the Cottbus/Spree-Neiße regional editorial team. The 48-year-old, who originally comes from Mannheim, brings a wealth of experience with her. Before her move, she was responsible for the editorial team in Fürstenwalde at the Märkische Oderzeitung. In addition to her journalistic career, in 2022 she received a nomination for the renowned Theodor Wolff Prize, one of the most important journalism awards in Germany, which 【 South German newspaper 】 is endowed with 30,000 euros and commemorates the long-time editor-in-chief of the Berliner Tageblatt, Theodor Wolff.

Angela Boll completed her journalistic training at “Mannheimer Morgen” and has made a name for herself in her career so far, primarily as a local reporter. The focus of her reporting was, among other things, court proceedings and the true crime podcast “Crime Squared”. She was particularly active in Fürstenwalde and initiated various digital projects, including the successful discussion format “MOZ-Club-Talk”.

New plans and challenges

In her new position, Boll plans to expand the online platform LR.de in order to further strengthen regional reporting. This could open up new perspectives for readers in Cottbus and the surrounding cities of Spremberg, Guben and Forst. She succeeds Kathleen Weser, who is moving to the Brandenburg editorial team of MOZ and LR. Jan Siegel will remain in the editorial team as deputy head, which ensures continuity in leadership.

Angela Boll's ability to tackle difficult topics is particularly impressive. Her nomination for the Theodor Wolff Prize was for an article that addressed the challenges facing nursing staff during the pandemic. The affected priest, who died in January 2021, presented numerous difficulties in farewell and care conditions during these critical times【 BDZV 】.

“The idea for the article came about over a long process of several months,” explains Boll. She wanted to give the nurses a voice and symbolically represent the difficult circumstances. Protests against the Corona restrictions followed in autumn 2021, which made the issue even more explosive. The deep insights she has gained about people's experiences during this crisis will certainly inform her future work.

With these diverse experiences and a clear focus on digital innovations, Angela Boll faces an exciting challenge. You can be reached at angela.boll@lr.de or by phone at 0175/8251636 is the first step to implementing your ideas for the region.
