Aue, Cottbus and Rostock: license for the 3rd league secured!

The football fans in the region are very pleased to announce: Erzgebirge Aue, Energie Cottbus and Hansa Rostock have received licenses for the coming season in the 3rd league. This was reported by the Borken newspaper, which also noted that the licensing was successfully completed by the German Football Association (DFB). After Dynamo Dresden's promotion to the 2nd league, only these three clubs from the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) are now represented in the 3rd league.

The licensing is a crucial step for the clubs, as each of the 20 sports qualified teams has successfully passed economic and organizational tests. This test is carried out as part of the DFB's strict approval process, which ensures that all clubs are well prepared for the upcoming season. It will also be extra exciting for the regional league champions, because Lok Leipzig missed promotion in the playoffs against TSV Havelse with a 1:1 and a 0:3 defeat.

Details about the 2025/2026 season

The admission process for the 3rd league for the 2025/2026 season has officially been completed. As the DFB website reported that all clubs qualified for the league have received approval. Six of the 20 places have been filled compared to the previous season. What is particularly noteworthy is that two new teams, 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and TSG Hoffenheim II, are represented in the 3rd league for the first time. There are also returnees such as MSV Duisburg and TSV Havelse, who are returning to the league. SSV Ulm and SSV Jahn Regensburg are also promoted again after relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga.

The season begins on August 1, 2025 with the first matchday, while the schedule will be published at the beginning of July. The first half of the season includes two weekly game days on the 16th/17th. September and on September 30th/1st. October. In order to make the season pleasant for all fans, the winter break is scheduled for after the 19th matchday on December 21st, before the second half of the season starts on January 16th, 2026. These innovations already promise great football enjoyment in the coming league.

Broadcasts and highlights

A particularly exciting aspect of the 3rd league next season will be the broadcast of the games. MagentaSport will broadcast all 380 games live, and free-to-air television reception will not be neglected either! 68 games can also be seen on free-to-air television, including ARD and other third-party programs. The broadcasters Sky and DAZN are responsible for the highlight broadcasts, which further fuels the anticipation for the league's latest games.
