Cottbus celebrates: New B168 brings relief to the city center!

Today an important step for the transport infrastructure is being celebrated in Lusatia. The new connecting road between Cottbus and Forst was ceremoniously opened to traffic on August 28, 2025. And the best part: The construction was completed a full six months ahead of schedule!

With an investment volume of around 73 million euros, this section is part of the new Cottbus bypass. It not only includes a new motorway junction, but also several traffic light-free junctions. This promises to significantly reduce traffic congestion, as many drivers have previously used alternative routes, which has particularly affected residents in Kahren and other districts.

Rapid progress for Cottbus

The construction work for this bypass took two and a half years and transformed a country road into a federal highway. The first part of the project was implemented in 2012, followed by further work that has been in full swing since 2021. With the opening, traffic on Autobahn 15 is expected to decrease, as recent developments allow road users to travel directly from the A15 to the northern area of Cottbus without having to pass through the city center.

The project not only represents an improvement in transport connections between Cottbus and Forst, but also a significant step in the region's structural change. For many local people, this is a welcome change, as through traffic through the city can finally be reduced.

Outlook for the future

Of course, this is not the end of the work. The connection of the B168 to the Autobahn 15 in Kahren is still in progress, with completion targeted for the end of 2026. The current junction will also close the last gaps in the transport structure and make this part of Lusatia more sustainable.

In order to stay up to date, citizens must also keep an eye on current developments in the transport infrastructure. Trends show increasing dynamism in the area of infrastructure and transport networks, as experts have now noticed. Factors such as sustainability, digitalization and the creation of intelligent infrastructures play a crucial role here. It is important that cities and regions continue to compete for long-term investments.

Overall, the opening of the new connecting road is a good sign for all road users and shows that work is being done not only on the present, but also on the future. It looks like there will be exciting developments in the coming years.
