Cottbus’ coach Wollitz speaks plainly: the win against Rostock was undeserved!
An exciting duel between Energie Cottbus and Hansa Rostock took place in the Ostseestadion on October 1st. Cottbus won the game 3-1, which doesn't make the situation at Rostock any easier. Coach Pele Wollitz was anything but euphoric after the game and described the victory as undeserved. He even said that he did not want to apologize for this success and questioned his own team's performance. Wollitz describes himself as a “football ascetic” and made it clear that there was a lot to criticize about his team, despite the victory that keeps them highly rated.
Particularly striking was the performance of Can Moustfa, who scored a goal and provided an assist to make it 2-1. Wollitz took him off the field in the 62nd minute and replaced him with Moritz Hannemann. The switch to a 4:3:3 system was a decisive factor in the course of the game, which was ultimately reflected in the result. Goalkeeper Martin Funk, who had recently moved to Cottbus, was celebrated as the match winner after making crucial saves.
Future of coach Daniel Brinkmann in limbo
On the other hand, the situation at FC Hansa Rostock remains tense. Coach Daniel Brinkmann, whose position was criticized after the game, currently has his hands full. Hansa Rostock have scored just five goals this season and are 15th in the third division, fueling discussion about possible coaching changes. In this context, Wollitz expressed support for Brinkmann and criticized the fast-moving nature of discussions surrounding coaching changes. In his opinion, a different approach to the problems in football is needed.
Another point that is heating up people's minds is the move of Maximilian Krauß from Cottbus to Rostock, which was announced shortly before the duel with Hansa. Krauß is now a regular player in Rostock and has also scored one goal and prepared another this season. Wollitz called the change legitimate, but criticized the timing and way in which the change took place. He categorically ruled out the possibility of shaking Krauss' hand and emphasized that he no longer wanted to have anything to do with him.
The challenges in the league
Energie Cottbus is currently in third place with Hoffenheim II and is only four points behind the top, which represents a promising basis for the team for the coming games. Cottbus has shown impressive form in the last few games, most recently with a 5-0 home win against VfB Stuttgart. However, there are questions about the use of playmaker Tolcay Cigerci as his wife is heavily pregnant, which further complicates the situation for the upcoming games.
Overall, the 3rd league remains exciting and the challenges for all teams involved are great. The next games will show whether Cottbus can continue its upward trajectory and how Rostock can free itself from its current misery.
